People First Consult is looking for a Direct Procurement Manager on behalf of one of its clients, a global leader in food and beverage, for its business in Ethiopia.

About the Company

A globally-renowned food and beverage company with a presence in over 200 countries.

The company is currently expanding its business in Ethiopia, a key growth market in East Africa and they are in search of a top-notch Procurement Manager to join their team.

Role Purpose

The Direct Procurement Manager is responsible for managing procurement activities for all direct material purchases including Foreign and local sourcing, market surveying, contract managing, ordering, vendor management, and budgetary control. The role is responsible for supporting the execution of short- and long-term local categories sourcing strategies to deliver business performance through the usage of relevant resources and network using Procurement processes and best practices.

  • Build category strategy that supports the delivery of local business unit AOP targets including innovation and base business execution, productivity and supply chain initiatives.
  • Supports local business to solve any supply issues. Understands and manages the category contract requirements related to direct material purchases, packaging, seasoning, oils, ingredients, grains (local and imported)
  • Supports the execution of change projects that are required to deliver productivity targets or support market innovation.
  • Understands the KPI’s of local and foreign suppliers in terms of service, quality, and productivity and provides actionable data to Procurement Manager to deliver suppliers performance.
  • Follow up on orders until delivery, monitor inbound freight optimization and lead times.
  • Supports the Procurement Manager in the execution of local key productivity initiatives, development of local suppliers in terms of service, quality and productivity and execution of legal contracts.
  • Analyzes the financial implications of local business strategies related to innovation and supply chain initiatives and provides actionable insight to ensure appropriate trade-off decisions.
  • Supports and executes full vendor approval process in close cooperation with central QA, ensures proper vendor registration documents are properly filed.
  • Execute localization strategy for direct material supplies to reduce imports and foreign currency dependency.
  • Support on supplier resilience and development for key raw materials, ensure BCP plan is in place.
  • Partner with sector packaging and Ingredient Leads to implement best in class specifications.
  • Ensure all purchases are reviewed and approved in accordance with the purchase authorization matrix.
  • Supervise the procurement coordinator to ensure all contracts and purchase orders are in compliance with PepsiCo Global procurement policy, relevant Acts, legal demands and ethical standards.
  • Implement systemic contract management control points by compiling and submitting accurate and reconciled delivery documents and invoices for the payment process. Maintain spending data per supplier.
  • Ensure proper and Up-to-date record is kept for all direct purchases, list of suppliers, PRs, Pos, and Invoices.

Within Global Procurement

  • Partners with Procurement manager to execute local categories strategies
  • Drives productivity and cash flow targets through effective management of supplier inventories and supply chains

Other PepsiCo Functions

  • Partners with local functions including R&D, Ops and supply chain to support the global procurement and local agenda (Innovation, quality and productivity priorities)
  • Partners with local SP&L, Finance team to drive AOP
  • Partners with local and global HR teams in getting direction for own development.
  • Manage interaction with suppliers.

Key Skills / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, or any other related field
  • 5 years of experience working in procurement preferably in the FMCG industry.
  • Strong critical thinking and strategic skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Import and Export experience
  • Result oriented, organized and able to meet deadlines
  • Skilled in spreadsheet programs
  • Hands-on experience using ERP systems
