People First Consult is looking for an Engineering Manager for one of its clients – A recent entrant into the Ethiopian beverage industry.

Position: Engineering Manager
Reports to: Plant Operation & CAPEX Manager
Location: Plant (Outside Addis Ababa)
Contract Type: Regular
Leadership Accountability: –
- Setting clear goals and expectations. Engineering managers need to work with their teams to define clear goals and expectations for each project. This includes setting realistic deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Communicating effectively. Engineering managers need to communicate effectively with their teams, stakeholders, and other managers. This includes communicating goals, progress updates, and any challenges that arise.
- Delegating and empowering their teams. Engineering managers need to delegate tasks and empower their teams to make decisions. This helps to create a sense of ownership and engagement among team members.
- Providing coaching and mentorship. Engineering managers need to provide coaching and mentorship to their team members. This helps team members to develop their skills and knowledge and to reach their full potential.
- Measuring and reporting on progress. Engineering managers need to measure and report on the progress of their teams and tasks. This helps to identify any areas where improvement is needed.
Duties and Key Responsibilities are:
- Commit to Occupational Health and Safety standards. Frequently state and articulate that Safety is our No.1 priority. Adhere strictly to the site safety rules and systems and equipment operational procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement activities in quality, cycle times, process improvement, machine availability through lean techniques and value engineering to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste
- Develop, implement and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility
- Ensure all stock items are appropriately identified in ERP.
- Manage team’s individual, performance and reward and training & development within clear improvement plans.
- set polices, plans and procedures, and take initiative to implement the identified
- Improvement opportunities to control cost and to achieve better yield and quality
- Analyze equipment maintenance data to interpret
- Manage and maintain production equipment. This includes ensuring that all equipment is properly calibrated and maintained, and that any breakdowns are repaired quickly and efficiently.
- Develop and implement new production processes. This includes working with product managers and other engineers to develop new ways to produce beverages more efficiently and effectively.
- Manage and lead engineering teams. This includes hiring, training, and coaching engineers, as well as delegating tasks and providing feedback.
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance plan for all production equipment. This will help to reduce the risk of breakdowns and ensure that the production line is running smoothly at all times.
- Work with production managers to develop a product roadmap that prioritizes new product development and process improvement initiatives. This will help to ensure that the engineering team is focused on the most important projects.
- Set clear goals and expectations for engineering teams, and provide regular feedback and support. This will help to ensure that engineers and Technicians are performing at their best and that team goals are being met.
- Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement cross-functional initiatives. This will help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the company as a whole.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and trends in the beverage industry. This will help the engineering team to develop and implement new technologies and processes that can help the company to stay competitive.
- Collaborate with other departments. This includes working with departments such as production, quality assurance, General service and ware house to ensure that the engineering team is aligned with the company’s overall goals.
- Lead and oversee the implementation of Integrated Management System (IMS) of the company (ISO 45001, ISO 22000, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001)
- Responsible to lead and supervise the implementation and effectiveness of Food Safety Management System (FSMS) ISO 22000 in the company.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- BSC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- 4 years and above experience of working within the beverage or related industry and a strong management background.
- Fluency in Amharic & an excellent command written & spoken English
