Sleshi Temesgen

Biography

Mr. Sleshi Temesgen is one of the Senior Consultants in Ethiopia. He is one of the expertise pull of People First Consult PLC. His educational background includes an MA degree in Development Studies specializing in Human Resources and Employment from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, Netherlands, a BA degree in Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University, and an LLB in Law (to be completed) from St. Merry University.

He has over 20 years of experience as a permanent employee, consultant, and long-term professional advisor for commercial, non-governmental, and government organizations. He has a great deal of real-world experience interacting with different cultural groups. He has provided consulting services to private businesses in several industries, including FMCG, horticulture, energy, food and beverage, transportation, and commerce and services. Having worked for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs as well as for Coca-Cola in different capacities, he has proven a wealth of expertise in the Ethiopian labor administrations.

Mr. Sleshi is one of the few labor relations specialists in the country with extensive knowledge and experience in the labor difficulties facing the country due to his suitable educational background, professional training, and real-world work experience in the sector. He contributed to the writing of the previous labor law, Ethiopian Labour Proclamation 377/2003. He trained trade union leaders and employers’ federation members on social dialogue and collective bargaining, among other issues, while he was working for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Sleshi has chaired tripartite panels with the government, the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions, and the Employers’ Federation in various situations to settle labor disputes that had reached the point of strikes.

Sleshi has served and is serving as a member of the board of directors for various local and international Business companies and non-governmental organizations.
